PAMPA plane name ?
« on: December 02, 2007, 11:07:01 AM »
Does the aircraft in the PAMPA insignia/logo (inside the circle & triangle) exist ? Does it have a name ? Are there
plans available ? I want to build one. Maybe we should have a contest and NAME THE PLANE ! I think all the top flyers should contribute their ideas & proven design parameters and PAMPA should publish the plans and keep all
the profits. Crist could cut foam wings and/or Kyle could laser cut ribs & the rest of the model. Size is a question too. Probably a .51/.65 size might be best all-around.  Your thoughts ?

MERRY CHRISTMAS  to all !!!!

It has been a LONG time since I remember any conversation about the *PAMPA plane*! ;D

IRIC, it was based either on one of Wynn Paul's or Steve Buso's planes.  Not even sure if it IS a REAL model.

I like your idea, Gene.  A 670, or so, sq. in. plane designed around the parameters of the modern planes with the ability to use pipe/4 stroke/muffled power plants.  The plane as drawn in the logo would be easy to replicate and show the necessary nose configurations for each set up.  Proceeds to PAMPA.  Great idea!

Gene,

Like Bill, I am not totally sure, but I also think that Steve Buso made the sketch. I also thought that it is Wynn Paul's "Pampa Wagon". I have to see what I can find out from Steve and/or Wynn.

I believe Ty and many others to be correct - a composite of a Steve Buso style stunter.  For those who wish to build a similar plane, check out Steve's "Litewave" design, .40 size, very similar.

Or his Vegas. Again, a very similar design. Or maybe his Jaguar, or...

Wynn Paul built a model that definitely resembled the one in the logo. I seem to remember it was painted light blue and he called it "The PAMPA Wagon"

Hi Brother Arch,

I did remember Wynn's name, like Tom N. said.  The other part I remember is that Steve did the aertwork for the brochure, IIRC.  That would lead to the replies about it being a Buso Design.

AS best as I can remember from the time when this was created (10-12 years ago??) Steve drew the plane as a loose representation of Wynn's PAMPA Wagon.  I *think* I was writing the Products Column at the time in Stunt News.

Actually, it looks a *lot* like one of Steve Buso's Free Flight planes called the Lowrider.  If I had to guess, I would say that was the inspiration for the plane in the logo (as well as some of Steve's later C/L designs).

It was on the cover of Flying Models in the late Eighties - probably 1987 or 1988.  It looked awesome.

No guess,

Someone actually called Steve and the airplane is the "Heatwave"!

That was posted over on the SSW Forum.
