Title: New Moderator
Post by: Ted Fancher on February 01, 2007, 05:49:45 PM
Hey, Sparky,

I see by reading the header to the design forum/thread that Jim Pollock is now the moderator (which is just great by me, by the way ... no problem at all, especially since I never really understood what the heck being a monitor entailed).   I would have appreciated a note advising me of the change but, again, it's not a big deal.  When did that happen, by the way?

What I would like to have you do, however, is to remove me from that annoying list of people who get automatic emails regarding complaints from users about the content of another person's posting.  First of all I never had a clue what I was supposed to do with the complaints and second of all because I'm not now and never have been a happy member of the Internet Content Police.  I simply use posts I find distasteful to inform me of those whose opinions I respect and those that I don't.  I've always thought that reading anything is like watching TV ... the reader's choice.

Stunthangar is, of course, your forum and I'm in no way suggesting that you should alter your practice ... only noting that I was always uncomfortable being associated with the practice in the manner implied by being a recipient of the complaints.

If it's all right with you I'll continue to read the forum from time to time and post when I feel I have something to add.  Doing that sort of thing is something I'm comfortable with, unlike being a content monitor.

I hope (and expect) that Jim will better provide the services you require.  He's bright, competent and a fine builder and flier.

Fly stunt.

I did send an PM to you.

You have beem removed from that list a long time now.

Stunthangar is, of course, your forum and I'm in no way suggesting that you should alter your practice ... only noting that I was always uncomfortable being associated with the practice in the manner implied by being a recipient of the complaints. That is part of the software.

I hope (and expect) that Jim will better provide the services you require.  He's bright, competent and a fine builder and flier. He has done a fine job.

Ted,

Hi, how's it going out there in the Bay Area?  Good weather for flying I hope.

Robert said that someome should stand up and take on the responsibility for moderating the designing forum.  I looked at his post and no one with any substantial  designing expertise seemed interested.  I told him I would do it, but a much better moderator would be someone like Al Rabe, Bob Gialdini, Bob Lampione, ect, ect.  Robert then stuck my name in as moderator and off we went.  I still think that someone with more desiging experience than myself could do better. At least while I have been here, I have been calling attention to the unusual designs like Walt Williamson's Which-A-Way.   I have done so, because it explores some "different" working aerodynamic examples.

So, you have a twin in your Skunk Works planning these days huh?  How about the Hughes H-1 Racer you were going to build?  Do you now have less interest in the H-1 because Steve Moon beat you too it?

Jim Pollock,  Not a great designer, but, what I did design flew very well.

Hi Sparky,
The last two "complaints" I received came on 2/1/07 regarding tubing benders and 1/31/07 regarding let's get real.  Most of the complaints I received weren't even on the design forum that I was the moderator of.  Sounds like maybe the software has a glitch somewhere.

If you sent me a private message regarding the change in moderator I either didn't receive it or failed to read it thinking it was another "complaint" message.  No big deal
Ted
