Title: Kitbashing and moments.
Post by: Joseph Lijoi on March 04, 2011, 07:23:02 AM
I was thinking of making a fuselage for a hangar 9 PT19 wing and tail since this is a weak point in all of these profile arfs.  Any ideas on a better wing tail engine spacing horizontal and vertical?
How about doing this with an ARF Flite Streak?  Give me some ideas.  Thanks

Lots of guys have used the TLAR method and get good results.  Stretching the nose and tail will change the characteristics and many use that to cater to their own likes/dislikes.

It is especially done to counter the original's balance problems.  Simply leaving everything as is and moving the wing position forward or back will much of same thing, basically.  The Sig Banshee comes to mind in that scenario.

Adding 2" to the Flight Streak tail is a number that sticks in my head, and a bit can then be added to the nose to help with fuel tank fitment.  Nose heavy tales less lead to correct than tail heavy, so keep that in mind! LOL!!

Don't know if the Hanger 9 needs any improvement in the c/l orientation of the engine/wing/stab. ???

Floyd,
I agree with your sentiment,, however whereas your bashing may occur during construction, mine usually occurs after construction

I guess bash is a poor word choice for a flying model.  Actually it is a bad word for anything.  It is real common with the plastic car guys.

Actaully the wing is pretty nice on that PT 19.  I know because I bashed one!  The kit is amazingly tail heavy.  But the wing has bushings in the bellcrank and is available seprately, as are all the pieces.  It would be nice if you could get an ARF nobler wing by itself.
