Gentlemen,
Reference: Stunt News; July/August 2009; Classic Stunt; Bob Hunt; pg 50
The article has a section title: Before the Chipmunk airfoil.
Is the article referring to the Van Loo Chipmunk, the SIG Chipmunk, or some other Chipmunk?
Is there a difference between the Van Loo Chipmunk and the SIG Chipmunk airfoil?

I don't really know--but that's never stopped me from answering! #^
I believe the VanLoo is a classic "legal" design, but the Super Chipmunk isn't. So my guess is he is referring to the VanLoo one.

I think that someone either Tom Dixon or Mike Gretz has stated that the Super Chipmunk wing and the Sig Kit Chipmunk wings are so close as to be interchangeable. The Van Loo Chipmunk wing was a foam sheeted wing.

Actually I did attach at least a part of Mike G.'s Chipmunk story on the Super CHipmunk thread that was on one of these forum topics.

Since writing this I checked and found plans from Stuka Stunt Works for both the Van Loo Chipmonk, and Mike Stott’s version as kitted by SIG.
Which has the "better" wing?

As I said before, but I haven't checked it myself, Mike Stott's wing was a foamy, cut by I forget who now. I don't know the dimensions except that I believe it was 55" span. But the Sig original kit and the Super Chipmunk kit wings are nearly identical. You can use the Super wing and build the original fuselage and put them together and you have the original Sig kit Chipmunk. Mike Gretz, please comment if Mike Stott's Chipmunk wing was thicker and by how much?

If I remember right, Mike was cutting foam wings before Bobby became famous with them. Don't take my word for it tho. Z@@ZZZ Z@@ZZZ

Isn't the kitted Sig Super Chipmunk smaller than the van Loo original? Not sure about the original Sig kit of the van Loo though.

The plans for the Van Loo Chipmonk give the wingspan at 55", the Sig Super Chip is 53.5 . . . I think.

As reported by Mike Gretz in another thread somewhere, I forget now but:
The original Van Loo Chipmunk from 1967 was 57" Span
The Mike Stott Chipmunk was 55 1/2"
The Sig Original Kit was 54"
The Sig Super Chipmunk kit is 54 3/8"
Here is the kicker, every one of them used the exact same root and tip rib templates!

SIG used to make wing kits. Including the Chip'. Maybe they still do...
But IMHO I like the Cavalier wing more for that size airplane. Yes, I have, and use both!
The Force is the Chip' wing, the Cavalier is the Cav'.

according to JVL, his original prototype#3 which I kitted a few years ago was 55. 1/2

I have the original M.A.N. plans (which seems to be plan # 77B) drawn up by Al Novotnik and there's no mention of wingspan on it. There's a 6" scale on the plan though, which in my case actually measures 5 15/16", so by measuring the inner and outer wings and taking into account that missing 1/16" the span is 54.6" with a 1.5" difference between inner and outer wings.
