Alan,
My Perky is the Blue and Yellow Model on the Blackhawk Web Site. With the OPS Sport 2.5 it weights 20.1 oz without fuel. This is a little heavy for this engine. But the model is made with block of Balsa and a solid wing. I was not too picky with the wood selection. The is very strong. The models made from the kit need some work to be air worthy. I'm replacing the cheap 3 plywood firewall with a 7 ply piece. I do not want the Landing Gear coming loose. Also, a modification is needed to the Fuse to place the engine on the thrust line. Without this change the model will not "look right".  I would load some pictures to this site but mine are all too large.

Here is a question, mainly because I have never flown speed. But with my Fox15BB (admittedly not a barn burner), the engine bearers as well as the rest of the plane look like overkill in terms of strength. I plan on doing a lot of carving to lighten the kit up.

Tom,
What do you estimate the Weight of your Bamtam .19 Sparky model will come in at. With all the Stuff, IE Coil and Condenser, it may add some more weight to the model.

Bill:

I have not opened the kit yet. But the Gettig model airplane miniature ignition coil has proven its durability and dependability in the field. This ignition system measures 1.25 inches long with a diameter of .75 inches, and weighs a mere 2.22 oz. (including batteries), making it ideal for situations where increased performance (by reducing weight) or compact size is a primary concern.

If I can hold the weight to my present Perky then with the ignition systen I should be abot 20 to 22 oz.
I'm going to try AAA batteries to save weight.  It only has to run about 3 min.

Bill,

My Perky weighs 19.5 Oz without minipipe (haven't made the pipe yet).  I'm powering it with an early CS AAC pipe timed .15, with a longer rod to reduce the sleeve timing.  On the bench it turns a 7/4 Tornado Plasticote prop 24K with open exhaust.  I flew the Perky a few years ago with a Cox Olympic.

Glad to see the switch to solid 0.014 lines and the 25 G pull test.

Are you coming to WN for the Dec contest?
