Thomas,

Congratulations on a beautiful airplane.  I remember seeing the originals in flight.  Did you increase the wing area?  It looks larger than I recall.   Is the landing gear drop-off or fixed?  Please keep us informed, particularly as to how it flies on official lines.

yes we increased the span and adde3d tip weight to offset the heavier lines.  the landing gear is fixed.  the only other change is the metal spinner because i could not get the balsa spinner balanced.  we don't have a 12dx10p prop so we'll go with something close.  i tested the ignition system yesterday.  i'm running a 3 - 1 mix of 70 SAE oil and gas.  we will be happy with a clean flight whatever the speed.  we also have a Magna "B" wiyh a dooling 29.

I think you'll find that a 10-10 prop will work fine.  Got good results in my O&R PDQ Senior on both gas & alcohol fuel.

The plane looks fast just setting there.  Wish I had known about the prop requirements.  When I get home after the NATS I will try to remember to see how many I have of Meriwether's old stuff.   Have a big box of all kinds of props that are of wood vintage.  Have fun,  DOC Holliday

Tom,

How did Vintage Speed go at the Nationals?  Have got all the parts for a an Ignition Super Cyclone powered VeeGee, but am holding off for flyability reports on the 0.026 lines.   Briefly considered building this combo for MonoLine, but somehow this would seem to defeat the Vintage concept. 

How did the Dooling 29 MagnaModel perform?  Back in the fifties this combo- stock and mild fuel- was good for about 130/135MPH on MonoLine and about five or six MPH slower on U-Control.

as things turned out i was not able to attend with Ashley & Steve due to a minor medical problem.  i'm sure Steve will have a report shortly.

We have sent off for a vintage speed plane called the "Roscoe" the plans were published in 1950. It will be easier than the "Perky" to build and very fast.

         I do not fly anymore. My third stroke ended a lot of things including driving and flying. Now I have one goal in life, to share this wonderful sport with as many people as I can. Right now we have 3 new kits at the laser cutters and I should be cutting out a OT Stunter (new kit). Instead an orphanage requested 20 model kits for their kids so that is what I am working on now. When you donate to an orphanage you never expect to get anything back, but once you see the smiles on the kids faces you know that it was well worth it.
