Perky & Clown Speed at The Brodak
« on: February 04, 2015, 03:59:11 PM »
I received a schedule from the Contest Director.  Both Perky and Clown Speed have been approved as FULL events.

So, we have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards in each event and also separate $10 entry fees.  The cutoff will be the close of flying on Wednesday, but we will accept early flights on Tuesday and maybe Monday.

There will also be a single "closest to average award" for both events combined.

Clown rules will be exactly the same as Clown Race.

I am open to input on the idea of allowing diesel fuel.  But I am willing to consider input.

Things are going well for Perky at The Brodak.
I've heard it through the grape vine.
At least three new Perkys are under construction.

This year Mr. Brodak has allowed us a full three prizes and Perky and three prizes in Clown, plus the combined "closest to average" award.

I have reviewed the latest NASS Perky rules.  In general, these rules are in force.  Here area couple minor exceptions:

Rule 10 - Lines.  52'-6" minimum, .014" single strand.  I will allow .015" stranded for "sport engine" entries.  We can tell a Fox or an Enya from a power engine.

Rule 14 - Multiple entries
.  A plane owner may use several models with NO additional entry fee.  But a plane owner is limited to ONE prize.

Rule 15 - Attempts.  There is no set number of attempts.  After everyone has had a chance to get three times, more than four attempts will be allowed, time permitting.

I just wanted everyone to know that Jim Vigani scratch built the awesome Perky as a tribute to John Ross. I had the privilege of supplying the engine and constructing the fuel tank and Tom did a fantastic job piloting the plane, to what we think is a national record.  What really makes this so unbelievable is that just a week before this amazing flight, the Ross Special crashed on its maiden flight into 3 pieces. I also wanted to mention that Paul Smith did a remarkable job CDing the event  H^^.  Brodak is always a great time, but this year was especially rewarding.

Thanks.

It was a great week of flying.  We had 10 successful entries and Perky and 7 in Clown.

The winning speed in Perky improved by almost 11 MPH in one year.
Note: Al and Peter built fantastic inverted-engine all out speed Perkys.  Tom used a basic built-up sport plane, Monocoted, with an old-style Rossi and was pretty close behind.

Clown Speed is an opportunity to get one more event out of the purpose-built Brodak Clowns and a good entry point for the new competitor.
