Hi,
Anyone interested in participating in the Perky Postal CL speed world-wide event for 2013.
I was asked by a CL speed flyer, if we could have a perky postal event. That’s how this got started.
The person that did the postal event in the past, stopped doing it. (there was a lack of participation) and the cost involved.
I have two sponsors the Dallas Model Airplane Association / George Hamby member will provided the event medallions for the average speed for 2013. NASS has sponsored the 1st -3rd medallions.
This info. is also listed in the last issues of NASS.
If interested in participating. There would need to be some rules.
Email info. To ptrckhem@aol. com Or mail To my address, speed w/picture of the model preferred. Or post info. here at this site. It’s ok w/the moderator.
1) Starting 2013 from April 1st to Nov 1st.
2) Post one speed for the year.
3) Model Requirements: it shall look like the Perky not a Phantom.
4) Up-right, Side-winder or Inverted model is OK.
5) No cowl covering the front end of the motor head (cowl break line) conforming to plans.
6) Refer to the NASS Perky Rules dated 11-06-07 and NASS Speed calc. and AMA line termination rules.
7) One Award for the average speed of the year and 1st – 3rd.
8) No need for the speed info. to be at a sanction event, just participate.
9) Line size shall be .014 solid as per NASS rules.
10) No entry fee it free just send your speed in and be safe.

Just the excuse I need to get the Perky back onto the active build list!

I think this is the Perky rules:

-
I'll post this on a couple of other sites...
-
I shall enter same as previously. Perky/O.K. 0.149. I'm guessing my U-Reely with 18thou. stranded is o.k.
Would love to fit my O.K. 0.19 and get some real speed! 8) Sadly outside the rules :'(

If you fly in an AMA sanctioned Speed contest, you would be obligated to use the .014" solids.
But if you fly on an "fun fly" basis, any lines with the equivalent strength of the above would be legal.
The "average wins" rule takes makes most of the petty details irrelevant.

Attached is a picture of the awards that were made by George Hamby.
The Average Speed Award and 1st – 3rd.
Post some speeds the year is half over.
Remember you got till Nov 1st.

Post some speeds the year is half over. Patrick
Patrick - Last w/e, terrible speed, 49.7mph. Model usually a shade over 60mph, but this year it went off halfway through the flight.
O.K. 0.149engine, 10% nitro fuel. U-Reely 18thou. lines. 8 x 6 prop.
This is my entry.
-
I got in a flight today, with the help of Keith Morgan and others at The Brodak.
39.35 seconds (91.5 MPH) for the standing mile. I couldn't get a time last fall due to a small fuel tank. That's solved now. I started the engine myself, ran out, and still had ten laps poor more to spare.
-
Another timing at The Brodak.
Ken Towers, Saint Thomas, Ontario, 58.95 seconds, 61.05 MPH, OS FP 15.

Working slowly on mine, been busy with life these last few months. Funny story:
A guy I know came by when I was moving things around, spotted my Perky fuse. He asked about it, I told him what it was...He jumps in and says, "Oh,No! You don't want a Nitro-Recip in there...YOU WANT TO GO ELECTRIC!" ...and he had all sorts of 2013 reasons why.
No explanation about postal contests, specs, or anything would dissuade him from his newly found 'convictions'.
He is convinced that I'm conspiring to ruin the planet. (one lap at a time)
-
I guess an electric motor would be OK in a 1948 vintage spped plane if you could make it run on liquid fuel with 10% nitro like everybody else.
-
