Title: Michigan State Meet - Rouge Park - Perky and 15 Sport Proto.
Post by: Paul Smith on September 06, 2008, 07:35:22 PM
We had two Perky flyers, Ed King of Saginaw and Jon Brzys of Livonia.  In our usual casual format, we took all the attempts we needed to get things sorted out, until we got the call to arms from the combat circle.  After a morning of fiddling with venturis, tanks, vents, and above all, props, we came to the bottom line:

Ed King, with a SuperTigre X15, weighing in at 15.1 ounces, 80.0 MPH.
Jon Brzys, with a Norvell 15, weighing in at a (light) 14.9 ounces, 69.1 MPH.
Averages speed winner: a tie.

We spawned a new event today.  We call it "15 sport proto", not too imaginative, but accurate.

Pretty basic rules.  Similar to Perky, but you can use any type of sport plane (including Perky)for the airframe.  Most of the usual Perky format applies: 16 laps from a standing start, .15 engine, suction fuel system, 10% nitro.  You can have all the attempts you need with all the planes you've got, but only your  best one counts.  We had three owners and six planes in the house.

First - Paul Smith with an NCLRA Clown powered by a Nelson FISE, 18.1 ounces, 91.21 MPH.
Second - Ed King, Perky 80 MPH.
Third - Jon Brzys, Black Hawk Custom Special, Taifun 15, 15.5 ounces 70.8 MPH.

Other scores not used,
Jon Brzys, Perky 69.1
Paul Smith, Brodak Circus Prince #3, 16.5 ounces, 70.9, Brodak Circus Prince #4, 17.1 ounces, 73.9, both powered by LA 15's.
