Title: Makers of Props....Fast ones
Post by: Scott B. Riese on August 14, 2010, 01:48:58 PM
Hi GUY'S......I know I'm out of my realm...However, I'm building a Clown Racer Irvine 15 Mk ll ABC Car Engine. Head sink is turned and Venturi is made .250 with .156 spray bar turned to .140. This will be my starting point.

Props are the thing...I don't want to use APC or over the counter props. WHO or whom should I seek for my Transmissions.

What I'm Thinking 7x5 ish
Please Teach me. I'm just a stunt flyer

What is your rationale behind "I don't want to use APC or over the counter props."?

Many Clown racers use APC props very effectively.

Hey Scott,

Yes, both Mike Hazel & Steve Wilk can make you good props.

I'd suggest a Dia. range of 6.5" - 6.7" and a pitch range of 5" - 5.5". So you may have to cut down that &" prop. Also, however you choose to go, the prop "load" should be aprox. equivalent to an APC 6.6D X 5P.  (i.e. turn the same rpm)
Fiberglass (epoxyglass) props are more reliable & tougher IF you pit the model by catching the prop. Carbon props ultimately can be sanded thinner for the same strength & therefore can be a bit faster.  Good luck & have fun!

Cheers, Paul

Does Clown Racing allow exotic props?  I was under the impression that it was limited to over-the-counter GRPlastic or wood.

Go to the NCLRA site and look at the rules.  That is where I am heading now.   H^^

I am back.  No restrictions in the rules on the NCLRA site.  There are restrictions on equipment that can be used.  jeh

takling with Steve of Eliminator Props -he says that his props are ok because they are available to everyone.  But some clubs will only allow wood or APC's.  check with the CD.
his web site is  http://eliminatorprops.com/index.php

Sounds like some clubs had better read the rules.  Unless it is posted o the notice at least 30 days before the event.   H^^
