Title: Fox Speed Test Results
Post by: C.T. Schaefer on April 02, 2017, 01:59:37 PM
Since the St. Louis guys changed the rules we have been wondering what the difference in speed would be without the min-pipe. The results were too close to call. Roughly the same speeds either way. Definitely miss the bad ass look of the pipe though!!   TS

The St Louis guys had pipe paranoia. They must have thought the mini pipe was going to turn the Fox 35 stunt into a high powered Nelson 36. Truth be told what ever you gain in power you lose in drag from the side exhaust Fox 35.

Last time I saw them there were three changes:

No increase in displacement from the Fox 35 stock specs:  (a loophole that needed to be plugged).

No rear valve:  (useless but harmless).

5% nitro  (dumb, and I won't enforce it.  The three worldwide nitro rules are zero, 10% and all you've got.  No need for a 4th fuel).

What's the spec?  .8" bore x .7" stroke as I recall.

I can do the stroke just by removing the glow plug and inserting depth mike.

I guess I would measure an engine if it wins and the the next guy complains.

This was not an issue last year.  You could use a Nelson .46 if you got it into a Fox case.

No problem there but just bear in mind that the Gardners were made to 36x spec and the 35 and 36 pistons are interchangeable.  And, another thing. Last years winner contained all Fox .35 parts.  TS

I wonder if the bore on the 36X is bigger than the 35 stunt. All those engines with high zoot Gardner ABC sleeves will be outlawed.

The Gardner ABC sets are the same bore as my 35 Stunt 40th anniversary engine. My high zoom crank has a .009 shorter stroke then the stock one, which probably make my engine the only legal one. The 40 anniversary engine with stock parts measured out to .356 which is over the advertised .352  n~

If the issue of bore & stroke combinations comes up you can use this simple Excel spreadsheet.

It can be modified to do sizes other than the Fox 35 Stunt.
