exhaust extension in Perky
« on: November 28, 2017, 04:01:34 PM »
I may have found a way to get a reflective wave to travel back up a straight pipe. Since this is an "extension" like a mini pipe, is it legal in Perky?

I define mini pipe as a constant diameter from one end to the other. But....... I did not make the rules.  TS

And I have some long, skinny f2d mufflers that add a few rpm, are these ok? Seems open to interpretation and maybe we should tighten up the rules to eliminate any extensions/mufflers/pipes???

From the AMA website.
A minipipe cannot be longer than six inches from the centerline of the engine bore to the end of pipe. The inside diameter of the pipe shall be of constant size.
Mufflers are legal in Perky.

Hey Ken.  Will it work on a LA25?

All depends on what you call "work".  If it reduces noise or gets the exhaust out of the airplane, it works OK.

If it enhances power, then it's a tuned pipe and thus illegal.
