Title: Enya 29 5224
Post by: Bill Johnson on September 03, 2015, 12:09:09 PM
I was wondering if there's any interest in this engine in the speed community. I have one NIB with both heads and all 3 venturiis. I understand it can be tamed for stunt, my primary interest, but am lead to believe the timing is different then the 35 5224 and is more suitable for speed. Is that true?

I've seen a couple of the proto planes. Where those flown single line or regular U control?

the old B proto's could be flown one line or 2 line .one line being faster.  todays 21 proto can only be flown 2 line . takes all the fun out of flying it S?P

Yes it probably is true. The .29 5224 is the linear descendent of the Enya mk 3 and mk 4 from the late 1950's and 1960's. Parts from the 5224 (mk 5?) will still fit the earlier engines which were popular for (Vintage) B Class team race. Certainly the earlier engines were timed differently to the 35 so it seems reasonable that the same was true for the later models.

Those are fine articles, all of them on the SuperCoolProps website.

I don't know why but I feel this engine should go on a speed plane. I have it listed for sale in the classifieds but if someone in the speed community would like to have this engine, PM me an offer.

Bill,

regrettably the Enya .29 doesn't bring a lot of money. They're not rare, I have quite a few, because while they're excellent engines they usually go for under $50 on Ebay. I've picked up NIB examples for less than than that a few times, one was NIB for $20.  Performance wise they compare very well to engines such as ETA 29's at a fraction of the price.

    Hi Bill:

I saw several engine  reports re the Enya .29 engines and they were as follows: This was the IIIB  5103  Enya .29 engine.

Test A said that it produced .7 hp.

Test B said it produced .59 hp

Test C was for the Enya IV 5224 engine and it produced .64 hp but could be pushed to almost .80 hp with lots of nitro.

I am sure that there are many more modern engines that would better these results for racing. But in their day, the .29 engines were quite powerfull.

                                                                                        Good luck,

                                                                                        Frank McCune

and a build fred for a ' B ' in N.Z.

So We'd like to see y'all have a B T/R done by next weekend .  ;D

Enya 29s were fairly popular in B T/R in Aus. in years of Yore - or the 60s . Mainly P.B. Im thinking .

My experience with similar with similar Enya 35's is that they're not as strong as they look.  All three had parts failures under routine use.  I think that if you press this engine hard, the end is near.

Use it for stunt.
