Good to know. I wanted to build a profile Perky but the boys said no. I also wanted some kind of go fast electric plane so, this might be right up my ally.

I don't think the question was answered, How fast do these things go?

Somebody said "high 70's".
With some many variables made equal, they all should go about the same speed, except for slight differences in workmanship.

Gee, I was hoping for about 100 mph. Maybe with line groupers?

I ordered a kit as soon as I saw it on facebook. My motor and props just came in today. I'm working on shaping and sanding the airframe. I hope I can have it temporarily assembled and nearly ready for paint for show and tell at our club meeting on Tuesday evening.
I have always kinda wanted to try speed but everything is so specialized and much of the gear is harder to source than stunt gear. I hope to compete with it at Dayton and the Nats.

These are the numbers according to Doctor Bad Ass's web page.

15,952 RPM
313.9 watts (0.42 HP)
90.6 MPH prop speed (true helical airspeed)
21.9 ounces of thrust.
6x6 prop, 3s Lipo, and Bad Ass 2320 1860kv motor.

These numbers do not compare well vs a Nelson or Fora on 10% nitro.

But if they let you run 4s you would get 729 watts (0.98 HP) and 132 MPH prop speed, which would make the event worth flying.

Sounds right 90.6 - 15% = 77mph.  Big step from that to F2G.

 

Too bad about the 3S limit.
With 4S they could outrun most gas engine Perkys.  If anything, I would make a 4S and not bother with the contest.
