Didn't the magazine say Dave Rigotti in Ohio is selling the kits? He's a member here.

Dennis Toth

Is this a thing? It could be fun, what are the rules for electric Perky?

Really tight. Minumum battery size seems odd. How fast do these go?

They're specing out the plane, motor, batt, prop, wheels, spinner?

I guess it all comes down to the esc?

I saw something on facebook about the electric Perky event where a kit is being offered?

The e perky kit can be gotten for $70 plus shipping from Dave rigotti through nassa

I looked at the rules. I don't see much of a way to compete.

So do we use a timer or 2.4 radio or does it matter?

bob whitney

from what i understand the timer comes with the kit and is already programed for what we need. All you need is a battery and the motor. RAD

Can I not just build from scratch? Or does it have to be the kit?

Bob Heywood

The kit set is complete with all of the necessary hardware and other minor bits to build the plane. The laser cutting is essentially perfect. Dave is aiming to bring people into speed. Maybe it will work, maybe not. Your best bet is to purchase the kit and support NASS.

If I did it, I would use a receiver so as to make a soft, controlled landing after the required laps.  $70 including a timer would be a real bargain, too good to be true.

Don't over think this. The Hubin timer is included. Every piece of fastener hardware is included. This is not intended to be a full tilt speedster. F2G and the AMA A & B classes will give that opportunity.

Where will these be contested?

Dayton in June and September along with the NATS for sure. The Class is added to the list of NASS classes.

My reasoning is because I already have everything to put one together, just wondering if that is within the rules for me to scratch build it and use a receiver instead of a timer(the way I read them is yes). Chances are I will not be going anywhere that I can compete with it anyways.

Hello,
Does anyone have a picture a electric perky and where/how the battery and ESC are mounted.
Thanks, Bill

Dennis Toth

Bill,
Here is the site to get the information about Perky-E  (https://clspeed.org/rules-models). Their was a photo of the ship but I can't find it now.

1000 KVA is too big.  I assume this to prevent contestants from hunting for the smallest & lightest battery that will go a mile.

I don't have a picture of the E-Perky.  We built regular Perky's from the old Megow plans and let the builder have some design freedom within the skin.  Component placement is pretty-much all the design freedom you have.

Do those things hunt all over the place with the tail below the wing like that? I had a 21 sport speed with a straight stab below the wing and the whole tail vibrated up and down as it flew. Next plane had a Vee tail.

I've flown the yellow prototype. It is rock solid.

Good to know. I wanted to build a profile Perky but the boys said no. I also wanted some kind of go fast electric plane so, this might be right up my ally.

I don't think the question was answered, How fast do these things go?

Somebody said "high 70's".
With some many variables made equal, they all should go about the same speed, except for slight differences in workmanship.
Paul Smith

Motorman

Gee, I was hoping for about 100 mph. Maybe with line groupers?

I ordered a kit as soon as I saw it on facebook. My motor and props just came in today. I'm working on shaping and sanding the airframe. I hope I can have it temporarily assembled and nearly ready for paint for show and tell at our club meeting on Tuesday evening.
I have always kinda wanted to try speed but everything is so specialized and much of the gear is harder to source than stunt gear. I hope to compete with it at Dayton and the Nats.

These are the numbers according to Doctor Bad Ass's web page.

15,952 RPM
313.9 watts (0.42 HP)
90.6 MPH prop speed (true helical airspeed)
21.9 ounces of thrust.
6x6 prop, 3s Lipo, and Bad Ass 2320 1860kv motor.

These numbers do not compare well vs a Nelson or Fora on 10% nitro.

But if they let you run 4s you would get 729 watts (0.98 HP) and 132 MPH prop speed, which would make the event worth flying.

Sounds right 90.6 - 15% = 77mph.  Big step from that to F2G.

Too bad about the 3S limit.
With 4S they could outrun most gas engine Perkys.  If anything, I would make a 4S and not bother with the contest.

Anyone have flight video yet?
