the pictures are maybe a little random, but I downloaded the AMA's speed rules and I'm fabricating the pylon as instructed.
I went to Home Depot and got almost everything needed. the only thing they did not have was bearings for inside the post. I'll see if I can source those through work today

Nice work!! Are you guys going to have any safety fencing/netting put up?
-
Yes, its pre existing. We already have a very nice rc field thats been there longer than I've been alive. We're working on making it more control line useable. I doubt we'll ever get to fly our jets, but at least we can practice here so we're not competing down at Whittier completely unprepared! lol I'll get pics of our field up so you guys can see what we're working with.

Got a threaded piece of 1-1/2 today. Cut on the bandsaw and I'm on my way to pick up the bearings.

I got the guts done of the pylon after work today. I made a handle and that slid under the yoke, then went the cap with two standard half inch washers for spacers, the first bearing, a half inch black pipe spacer, the other bearing, then half inch washer and then I drilled the shaft for an 1/8 inch cotter pin. the bearings are exactly 1.625 od. the pipe is 1.620. so I will hone the pipe so the bearing slide in with only a slight tap that way it's easy to remove in case Joey breaks my yoke! lol

Dane it looks real nice, just to clear up the pylon breaking thing i did not break the pylon in lake charles, dallas or roseburg it was the planes fault. y1

Lol, im sure that's the case!
I'll get some pics of the site and pylon in place. Maybe tomorrow. It makes for nice training. Maybe even try to get Daviny a flight in on it
