Title: Caught up with an old friend......
Post by: Dick Tyndall on August 21, 2017, 02:59:43 PM
Went down to see Mike Langlois in North Carolina last Friday. I last saw Mike in 1978 when he, Elmer Huff, Bill Pardue and Tommy Hurlocker broke the Jet speed record at the Winston-Salem, NC Hobby Park with a speed of 213 MPH and change. He owns and runs a machine shop business and makes the Nelson .40 Pylon engines, now. A friend and I got the nickel tour of what he has going on there and we were very impressed! Always good to see old friends and that they are doing well.

Tell him to make some stunt engines.

MM

If someone came up with a good design for an engine ( that would sell ) and a pocketful of cash he might consider it...........

I need to give him a call I guess. I'd like to find a Nelson 40 rear intake, rear exhaust for a C speed or F40 ship

Good choice Dane. The front intake is the fastest set up, less moving parts.  Shannon got his set up to 193 mph. When Marty and I roughed out the modern day C speed, we thought 200 would be obtainable but so far 193 is the max to date. I did hear there is a C / FAI model being built for the much less flown world record.

Sweet. Shannon sent me a video of the 193 run. Very very nice. One of these days I'll get my traveling budget and hobby budget straightened out and I'll order a bunch of stuff from Marty. Speaking of traveling, I'm headed to lubbock for labor day!

I don't know anything about the Nelson PA engines. I know a run of Nelson .36 Combat engines were made a year or so ago. I heard that all of them were prepaid before they were produced. I never kept up with the Stunt stuff too much when I was flying controline. Mostly Combat, Racing and some Free Flight. Been racing R/C boats since 1985. I was just catching up with an old friend.

I would give Henry a call because Mike just makes the pylon engines. Quickie 500 and QM 40. Henry is still making other stuff and just as a warning both Mike and Henry will try to talk you in to a front intake engine because they make more power. I was going to go with a rear intake engine also then after talking with them I changed my mind. Henry can also build you an engine just for c speed. I think he makes a pan as well.
