Why not a speed event for the K&B 4011, 4050 or older Torpedo 40's. The engine is still in production, it's fairly cheap and I think allot of people might have one in a box somewhere. Also the engine is very unbreakable and needs very few mods. Speeds would be about 125mph. Seems to make more sense than using a crap out of production Fox 35 stunt grenade engine.
Profile only,
wing area 125 sq. in.
2 lines .018" stranded 60'
Flying wire not allowed to pass through tether point
Pressure tanks allowed
open face exhaust
no flying wings, must have canopy and rudder or V tail
Engine mods allowed, must remain single bypass
one wheel gear
timed from launch for 14 laps
Something like that , what do you think?

sounds like ONE UP QUIKIE RAT

If you didn't say profile you would be back to Formula 40 Speed, except with a K&B.
I happen to have such a plane that went 118 MPH last time I flew it.
This is sort of like the old Detroit Dragway.
A class for every car.
Fly it.
Time it.
Be the champion until somebody beats your time.

Quicky rat with pressure tanks, rear valves and other mods allowed would be an easy conversion for Texas Q-rat flyers.

Isn't there enough speed events now, same with carrier and racing. S?P VD~

Yes, and most require $500 engines.

If you look at an F2D contest you will see $1,000 worth of engines in every match. And they bust up more than just a few. A single $500 engine to compete in a safe event is a comparative bargain.
Not to mention the cost of your shop to rework engines.
I see from the results of the St. Louis contest that Fox 35 Stunt Speed is a great event for beginners on a low budget.

Maybe bring one up on June 5 or Brodak and give it a blast to demo the idea?
-
There doesn't seem to be much positivity for it. I thought it was a good idea.

It might be a good idea. But we have another new event in the pipeline that we've barely even tried yet.
There probably are a lot of K&B 40's around.
But there are really a lot of Fox 35 Stunts.
And they have become obsolete as stunt engines in the wake of huge piped engines and electric motors.

Walt, I think it's a decent idea but have been working hard to get these darn Fox .35's to run and live ;D. Lord knows, I have plenty of K&B stuff laying around. Mostly junk though I could cobble something together as needed.

I always like the idea of entry level, or cheap to get into kinds of contest flying. As a speed rookie, so far the cheapest event to get into has been sport jet. An hk jet and a bolton t34 trainer. The hk jets are like $50 or so brand new.
Then of course, 1/2A proto for the beginners, or those on a budget. That will always be my favorite event.
