I have a small "Library" of F4U Corsair reference material. What is it your inquiring about?

Specifically, I'm looking for photo documentation of the F2G-2's in Navy markings. BuNo 88459 is the only one for which I've seen any pics. I was hoping perhaps someone had something squirreled away.

"Corsair 30 years of Filibustering" by Bruno Pautigny

The book is available in English.  I highly recommend this book for anyone with even a passing interest in the Corsairs.  It covers the complete development and evolution of this airplane with drawings and tons of color and pictures of all variants.

Regarding the F2G, there are several pages and color profiles of the several airframes that were built.  There are also several pages ( of color profiles and color paintings of the racing versions of these F2G machines.

The book is published on glossy paper, hard bound, is a bit pricey, but well worth the investment.  It will not disappoint.  You can find this at

Actually, I was able to spend a day at Walter Soplata's collection some years ago. Race # 74 was still in as good a shape as it could be given the circumstances. Still, pretty cool.

That French book has a black and white profile of #74 with the caption:

"It was aboard this blue F2G-1 with a white checkerboard tht Cook Cleland won the Thompson Trophy in 1947.   new high-octane fuel took the power rating of the P&W R-4360 engine up to more than 4,000 bhp which enabled the plane to reach speeds of more that 440 mph."

Hi Keith, I just looked up this book on Amazon and it sells for $26.56.  Seems like a pretty reasonable price for a book of this quality.  Thanks for the reference.

Walter A. Musciano just finished writing a book on the Corsair, which he claims is the most complete ever.

I do not have the source, but he's still living in Lodi NJ.

Has this been published yet? Keep us informed. This plane has a remarkable history.
