Sterling Aluminum Cowl
« on: October 09, 2009, 10:29:07 AM »
So...I have an old C-Series Sterling PT-17 and I would really like to put the cowl on it.  The
originals were the spun aluminum 4" that I believe fit most of this series of kit but of course
they are long out of production.  Now I know that a lot of the Stearmans had uncowled engines
and I have maintained several but I am doing a cowled version this time.

Question...Is there one in somebodies goody box they might part with?  Or is there a sub that
would work for this plane.

David

I saw a few aluminum cowls at Radical RC.  You might try them.

David I have a NIB spun aluminum cowl that is 3 5/8" diameter X 1 1/2" deep. If this is suitable let me know. I don't know what kit the cowl is from.

Check with Sig Mfg. or someone here that sells there stuff. They still offered one last I knew, and I'm pretty sure it's 4". It's from one of the old Berkeley kits if I remember correctly.

Right...they still offer it, and it's only $2.00! (Brodak also has it for $2.39)
Downside is it's only 3-1/4". They also carry a short "horse collar" type, 360 degree ring for the same price. It tapers down slightly from the front radius, but it is 3-3/4".

I'd look to the fiberglass guys. They have most sizes.
