Title: Toronto and District Championships May 30 & 31, 2015

The first event Saturday was scale.  Despite high wind and impending rain the Profile event went off without trouble.  Nobody dared fly Sport.

Noted racing competitor Dave Kelly won Profile & high static with his new Stuka.

Gordie Gimmert could have won Sport if he put his E3 in the air.

Chris Hubbard entered and took third with his new Cornell trainer in Norwegian colours.

Gordie Gimmert's new Bloehn & Voss was a bit tail heavy for a good flight score, but it did well in static.

Chris Brownhill's Glouster Gladiator was, as usual, the best flyer.  He took second behind the powerful static scoring of Dave's new Stuka.

All entries used OS FP or LA 40's and 46's.

I have this thing about the Stuka.

Wish there were more interest in scale.

Any kind actually.

Nothing like a model that looks like a real airplane. Even if somewhat.  ;D

Dave Kelly's Stuka is a perfect profile scale model.
This was it's first day of flying and a bit of landing gear trouble reduced his flying score.
With a little tweeking-in he could win anything with this model.

Paul,

OK, how does one generate interest and participation in scale or semi-scale, even character/comic book scale for that matter, when the CL hobby itself is declining?

I try with Threads in the scale area but it appears as though the room is quite empty.

Makes a guy kinda say, what's the point?

Most people flying models are either in the shop building or out at the field flying. A very small percentage are on the internet.
One would be out flying in contests like those in the pictures above to drum up interest.

These guys in the Toronto area all used 40/46 size single engine models.  Sort of a gentleman's agreement.  On the broader scale, anyone who doesn't spend a fortune on a huge multi-motor monster is reduced to the role of a mere participation entry.

We have several scale events, but all (except 1/2A) are wide open to the same big machines.

Maybe an event limited to a single 46 or even a 25 would be good.
