Title: Thanks
Post by: Hemi Steve on July 18, 2022, 02:35:53 PM
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people at the Nats who helped me have a great outcome.  This was a 3+ year quest and was well worth the effort.  Thanks to Pete, Allen, all of the judges (very fair I thought), the women who ran the "office" and all of the competitors.  I've raced full size cars, boats and airplanes over the years and no group of people were as nice and helpful at the control line scale people.  I'd also like to put out a very special thanks to my Skymasters RC club friends Jim and Phil who came with me to the event.  After I broke my landing gear and a bunch of other stuff on my P-39 in round they worked with me half of the night to get the Brooklyn Bum ready to fly in round 2. Without their help I could not have won the event.  And finally a congratulations to Jim for his second place finish in Fun scale flying my 1/4 scale "Miss Los Angeles".  The whole thing was amazing....an event I'll never forget WOW.

I did not realize you are "Hemi Steve" during the nats or I would have commented.  You spent so much time and energy in doing your research as you asked many questions on here, as well, I am sure, as to others that your ability to follow the results of that research showed in the aircraft you presented.
You will be a force to be reckoned with in the furture if you continue, and I hope you do.

Great to have all you guys from Michigan at the NATS.  Looking forward to your new planes in 2023.

Hey Will,
Thanks for the kind words. It was  a major effort for a variety of reasons.  I'm working on ideas for next year but I don't know whether Jim and Phil are going to be able to do this again. it was a big commitment on their part and I wouldn't blame them one bit if they don't want to do it again.  We'll see.

Geeze I just re read my original post....Pete Allen??  Senior moment I guess.  Anyway I really appreciate the help that I got from you and many others.  If I end up coming to the '23 Nats I'm trusting that I can get some help  from someone to be my caller.  As it sits now I've got a number of planes that I can bring in a variety of classes. I'm working on a new design for profile scale. I've got materials on order and a rough design that should be a lot of fun to build and fly. As the design comes together, I'm going to ask a couple of questions about the rules to make sure I'm interpreting them correctly.  More later

Steve

Hey Steve, I hope your buddies can and will be willing, but if not, you can find any number of guys who are there who will be more than happy to help you.  (Including me, if I'm not judging, that is.)

Mike McHenry on the left with his 1st place fun scale P-39, 1st place 1/2a P-39 and Steve with his Sport Scale P-39. Who knew the P-39's were going to sweep the 1st place awards in Fun, 1/2a and Sport scale!

Ummm, Mr Fred C.,
Any hints on the B-25 model and driver? I'm a sucker for twins...especially the Mossie and the Mitchell.
Thanks in advance,

The 1/2a B-25 was flown by Allen Goff. I have pictures of a full size DH mosquito from the St Louis air show if you are interested.
