New Build. Newport 17; Maiden flight, AMA, 5/18/19
« on: March 02, 2019, 11:14:20 AM »
Here are some pics from my new C/L scale ship. It will be powered by a Saito FG14C gas four stroke, weight should come in around 7-8 pounds.
The full scale is a reproduction of Canada's WWI ace Billy Bishop's Newport 17.
I have approximately 600 hours in it so far. Hope to have it done in time for the "Nats" this year.

Blessings
Allen

Will, I am going to wear a divers belt to keep me grounded.
Glenn, the wing span is 68 inches and it's weight before final paint, wheels, tank and marking is 6.4 lbs. I'm shooting for 8 lbs or less complete.

More pics to come.

Here are a few more pictures. It is 99% finished. Weight is 8.5 lbs with batteries. I hope to test fly it this weekend. I have started  the engine and have set the idle and top end. This Saito gas four stroke is the best scale engine I have ever owned, very user friendly.
Enjoy

Maiden flight. All went well, no suprises, ready for the Nats.
I post three pictures, before and after. Always nervous about first flights. Going home in one piece. #^ #^ #^

Looks great Allen; tell us more about the power plant, What is it's displacement?  Any specific reason why you chose a gasoline engine? The need for extra nose weight is pretty obvious!! You just don't see that too much in control line.  Since the engines in the full size airplane were rotary engines, and had no throttle and controlled by interrupting the ignition with a blip button, how do you plan on presenting that in the flight presentation? Inquiring minds want to know! Again, a great example of the type.
   Type at you later,

Looks to me like the competition will be vying for second place.  :)
