There were ten entries in  2019 NW Regionals Scale competition. Two were previous Nats winners. The documentation was of very high quality as well as the flying portion of the event. Superb entertainment was provided by first time Scale entrant Paul Gibeault. He had a 1/2 A SR-71 that was built up construction with twin hopped up mouse race motors as well as a Jetex rocket motor!!!!! After several attempts the rocket motor lit up with fire and smoke. The plane was very fast with the Mouse race Cox .049 motors but when the Jetex kicked in it really took off. Paul had it well trimmed and it flew well even when the Jetex went off.

Burt Brokaw flew his P-51 with retracts very well and earned first place in fun scale. He also was a proxy pilot for Vic Lichtenberg who at the young age of 88 built and documented a beautiful Great Lakes Special including pictures of the real plane that was being restored. The plane had plenty of power and flew very well. including loops and inverted flight.

Orin Humphries also had a great flying Monocoupe in Fun Scale which was based on the Sterling kit but most of the wood replaced and was in excellent trim .All of Orin Humphries planes had impeccable documentation . Of note was his Beechcraft Staggerwing which he re- covered etc that was quite a few years old and looked beautiful. A picture of it can be seen in Flying Lines Newsletter under Northwest Regionals report. Orin had a 1/2 A profile SR-71 that had two good running Cox 1/2 A motors.

John Wright was the Grand Champion as he entered all the Scale Events. He was first in Profile  Scale and second in all the others.John flew his well traveled and excellent flying FG-1D Corsair in Profile Scale. In 1/2 a Scale was his twin Cox .049 Bristol Beaufighter . Sport Scale was the good flying Cessna 195. He flew a P-47 D in Fun Scale.

Of note all 1/2 A Scale entrants had twin engine planes , and all of them were well prepared. The quality of the competition was very good , Both Burt Brokaw and John Wright have won the Nats in a Scale event before. All the planes were powered well and flew well. The pilots were ready to go and engines started without much fuss and ran well. The Jetex taxed Paul but did not conquer him.

I have written and article and there are several good pictures in the Flying Lines Newsletter under Northwest Regionals.
I flew my PDK( Pat King Kit)  Extra 330 SC which is really a profile Scale plane to third place in Sportsman Profile . There is a great picture of it in the picture portion of the Northwest Regionals report on Flying Lines
the Northwest Regionals report.
