RSM .15 size P-51 Flies in scale, WINS!
« on: August 10, 2015, 09:11:37 AM »
Well, OK, I was the only entry in my class, but I did score 87 points in my first scale contest. Plus the plane survived unscathed.  LL~

Well congrats on the win.  If you hadn't flown there would have not been a winner.

Excellent detail, especially the pilot clone of Bob Hoover. Congrats on your win!

I added a KR timer to the other side of the fuselage so I can fly stunt with the model too.  ;D

I am working on the handle setting and other trim. I use a modified RC car radio for the handle in scale, but an RSM Hard Point Exponential handle for stunt. So far, the same lines for both, 52.5' x .012.  I may go to 2' shorter lines for stunt, as the overhead maneuvers are more difficult than what you need for scale. Plenty of maneuvering capability available.

So far the plane has great potential, I scored 509 with a similar model that weighed 2 ounces more! When tuned for stunt will fly scale even better, I expect.

It weighs 26 ounces with a 2200 mah 3s battery.  That is a bit too heavy to really fly stunt well, it sags a bit in hard corners.  the 2200 is needed for the modern pattern, but I can get away with a 1500 for scale, and lose nearly 1 ounce, plus the maneuvers are way less demanding. Now that I have my Ringmaster, I will probably only fly this model in scale events.

Did you mount the battery on the inboard side? I am almost finished with mine and am thinking about doing that.
Thanks .Looks great.

The battery is mounted under the outboard wing.
