I have been experimenting with some of the Bind-and-fly 2.4 Ghz recievers that the RC park flyers use. You can buy the Tactic TR424 receiver which is very small and has a limited number of channels but more than enough for most of use that just fly with throttle control and maybe one other feature.
The TR424 receiver works with my Tactic 650 transmitter. So if you have a very small space to work with these can be an option. The picture shows the normal TR624 receiver next to the TR424 receiver.
My next thing to put together is a module similar to what Dan McEntee did with his "Dusty" model but since the receiver, servo and battery are really small I hope I can reduce the size of the module to control the throttle on my F7F Tigercat which is being converted from down the line electronics (servo driver) to 2.4 Ghz controls.

This is Dan McEntee's profile scale model with a module on the outside of the model. The module contains the servo, battery and receiver and he removes this when he flies the CL stunt pattern.

Not likely. Or at least, check carefully. Your brand may have receivers that small, though.

Tower Hobby for the name brand stuff, Hobby King for cheap Chinese.

Go to www.motionrc.com and look at spectrum receivers an AR400 is about the size of a small postage stamp and they have servos down to the 9 gram size. The receiver is $40.00 and the servos are from $4.99 to $11.00. I'd get the metal gear servos as they are a lot more durable. spend $100.00 0n anything there and the postage is free. Oh they ship fast and their customer service is 5 star quality.
You also might enjoy seeing the models and how cheap they are for the level of completeness. Just don't ever count on BOM points.

There is a good article in the Mar MA magazine on the Spectrum micro Rx. Used on a Delta Dart, but looks like it could work for some CL applications. Most of this micro stuff is 3v. Maybe ok for throttle but I am not sure about heavier apps like gear or flaps, etc.

The Spectrum receiver has the servo units built into the receiver and could maybe work the glow powered throttle but I am going to use a micro or mini servo that can handle the 2-56 clevis to drive the throttle on my Tigercat. I will see what is available at the Toledo hobby show.

My radio set is the Spectrum DX2E 2ch 2.4GHZ DSM. At least I know the Futaba charger works with the switch harness I have.

Have range tested to 900 ft. with no problems. Should be more than adequate for CL, LOL
