Pics by Our Own

This was on Planes a Day.  Caption says it was taken by our own Tom Wilk when he was stationed at an air base.  I have always thought this would be a good model to do. H^^

The DC-3 is near and dear to my heart.  It was the first airplane I ever flew in.  Age 13 in 1953 - a flight with my mother from Jax, FL to Huntsville Alabama..  Mother had a bad back and was told by the doctor she needed to fly.  Back then, I believe it was Southeran Airlines, had a program that a child could fly free with a parent.

I am totally in love with that palne.  I banged around the north in one of those for an entire summer, doing geophysical and survey work for the Yukon Government.  Never forget her.  I did build a twin 049 profile model of her, years ago.  Had a blast.....she barely had enough jam to get off the ground, then she would stagger around till one engine would quit....then she would settle pretty as you please and taxi around till some either caught her, or she ran out of fuel! LOL  Good times!

My Dad flew for Southern Airways in 1960. He flew the DC-3 and the Martin 404. I have flown the DC-3 a little bit, it is a really fine airplane.
