NATS Living Quarters
« on: February 29, 2012, 06:22:36 PM »
Guys:

Since AMA sent me a pre-registration package, I realised that I had better make reservations in Muncie for the duration. I usually stay at the Motel 8. It is reasonably clean and they don't think their rooms are gold plated like my usual (Holiday Inn Express) does. Some of the R/C boys stay there, but I have never seen any control line scale participants.

Last year I noticed in the AMA newsletter that there is a motel in Muncie that appears to be where everyone stays. The article in the newsletter said the motel provides a lobby in which the scale guys could display their models. I think that I also might have missed a pilot's meeting because I was unaware of this gathering.

Does anyone know what motel this might be, and will it be utilised again? Any help will be appreciated.

Remember the good old days at the Navy Nats where you could stay on the base for free?

The only NATS I attended I had a 30' 5th wheel.  I stayed at the AMA camp site. Very nice.  Sold the TT.  Last time in Muncie (FCM last summer) I stayed at the Lees Inn. http://www.leesinn.com/muncie.htm.  Was clean and cheep.  Gave me a big discount as an AMA member.  Didn't see a lot of other contestents - but I wasn't looking.

Jim, I know most of the stunt flyer's stay at the "Signature Inn". I don't know of any motel in Muncie that has a lobby big enough to display many models. It would be nice if everyone (scale) stayed at the same motel. I have checked on rates of some motels and found the Lee's Inn to be a good buy (as good buy's go these days). $59 - $69 AMA discount.  We can hold the pilots / judges meeting there too.
You might want to make your reservations early because of Ball State University sports and state high school volleyball tournaments. There have been some years that you could not get a room in Muncie and had to stay in Anderson some 30 miles away.
