Yes the rules do say that you take to two best flight scores and add them together, then add the static. Allen's score should be 166.25. The two best 1/2a flight scores were averaged instead of adding them together.

With what Paul says, would it have made a difference if done his way?  Like my first stunt contest I CD'd and judged.  One competitor complained about his score being low.   I looked at him and asked do you really think you flew well enough to beat the first place guy and bad enough to not wind up in third.  He had second place trophy in his hand. ???

By adding the two highest flight scores to together instead of averaging the two best flight scores it puts the static and flight points on equel importance. It would have not changed the outcome of the results but it will change the overall official score that gets reported to the AMA.

Thanks for the update Fred!  My congratulations to Ed for superb presentation.  And thanks to you, my buddy and I had the pleasure of meeting Ed and  had the opportunity to see his "squadron" at his house.  It was quite a memorable visit and then, best of all, my buddy and I had lunch at Ed's restaurant and had the pleasure of meeting his wife.  You ought to see the models he has hanging in there!!  It was quite a day for us!!

What Mister Smith neglects to notice is that once a flight is scored, the judges have exactly NOTHING to do with the tabulation.  He's knocking people about this but doesn't even seem to realize he's blaming the wrong people.  I gues his knowledge of the rules surpasses his realization of just how a contest is run.
Judges do not have the time to total the score sheets, that is out of our hands.  Once we score a flight the sheet is handed to a runner and we're on to the next flight so we can run through as quickly as possible to avoid possible weather junk.  So wake up and see the truth Paul, point the errors in the direction in which they occur.  You're wearing on many of us with your superior knowledge but lack of understanding.
