Title: My Heinkel He-51 biplane...
Post by: Art Neto on November 11, 2015, 05:57:58 PM
Hi guys... new to the forum here...

I just finished a little Heinkel He-51 for the Brazilian C/L Nats to be held this coming weekend (11/14~15)

It's kinda stand-off scale as I built it from a set of plans apparently from an extinct Spanish kit company called Modelbau. Still unflown because of time restrictions...

Power is by OS 35 r/c, home made throttle linkage system, Koverall covering and dope finish.

Hope you enjoy...

I see ability and technique in that model.

When the first pic came up I thought it was the real thing.   Hope it flies as well as it looks.

Thanks everyone... and I want to say that I learned a lot from my buddy and forum member Fred Cesquim, who's a true master of the art. Even though I'm almost double his age I can still learn a few new tricks! THANKS FRED!

Art,  who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks.   I'm still learning or relearning something every day.

Had to come back for another look, your airbrush work is impeccable. This model is very impressive in many ways, I'd have a hard time putting that first load of fuel in it.  y1

Art,

I'd like to see a few more photos of your fine model.

Small holes for the bellcrank instead of long slots? How does that work?

What did you use for the flying wires?

I have a model happening that will need a bunch also.

I used the metalic silver sewing elastic years ago on a model but I'd like something riged for this one.

You did a great job with that model.  H^^

Awesome!  Plans for that and some of the other Modelhob designs are readily available.  The Heinkel "looks" like it should be a great flyer.

But I'm with Wayne here - not sure I'd even want to fuel up such a beautiful airplane!

Hi Charles,

Yes, I'll post more photos, thanks for your interest and kind words!

I have next to no experience with C/L planes... I flew for a year starting in '75 and migrated to R/C... so the small holes for the bellcrank cables might have been a mistake...

The flying wires are the same stuff you used: elastic thread! Same for the overhead antennas! Simple, cheap, easy and replaceable!

So...it's flown?

Yes it did, but very briefly... my throttle system didn't work properly and I had to abort shortly after takeoff... light damage resulted but easily repairable!
