I have been stumped for many weeks about the Waco emblem on the fin of my airplane. Sooooo, I made the decal myself.
#1. Decal film is; EXPERTS-CHOICE DECAL, ITEM #123, made by BARE-METAL FOIL CO. P.O. BOX 82,FARMINGTON, MI. 48332; $6.95
#2. Read instructions.
#3. Copied the Waco emblem from their web site. Re sized it, put it on a CD and took it to Staples they charged me $.59, I tipped the girl $5.00 for her help.( or if you have a color lazier printer you can make it yourself). You CAN NOT print on a ink jet printer.
#4. Two light coats and one heavy coat of clear,( about two hours between coats) and you are ready to put it on the airplane. Good luck.
I amazed me. #^ #^ #^
Here are some pics.

Looks great but that picture ends up being a real teaser. Can we see the rest of the model? #^
(Doh! Found it under Waco Re-Op) NICE!!! y1

Allan,
Nice work. I need to do some of that for the Jenny. We recently bought a new HP ink-jet printer for my wife's home office. This machine supposedly has a new ink formulation that is waterproof, so can be used (hopefully) to make decals. Will keep the forum posted on the results.
Thanks for the link to Bare Metal. BTW, I used their gold foil to "plate" the radiator on the Jenny.

Will, Muncie has a new hobby store downtown, mainly trains, and R/C cars but airplanes too. He had the decal paper in stock. A lucky find hum?

I've made my own decals for a few planes, printed them off with my Ink Jet printer, never had any issues. All you need to do is give the ink time to fully dry then a light dusting of Clear Acrylic Varnish from a rattle can, this waterproofs them. You can probably use other clear coats, I just used this because that was what the instructions said. :)

Surely, it has to be more complicated than that Alan. It looks great. H^^

Beautiful looking Allen. That covered tail reminds me of wood, dope and fabric class in high school, lol. n~

I've used any clear that I had on hand with the same excellent results. However I've had nothing but problems trying to make decals with my laser printer.

Allen,
Wish I had known, I would have sent you a couple for free. I'm a big WACO fan. I built my Pica Waco years ago.

That is one beautiful WACO. I have always admired Jimmy Franklin's WACO. #^

I went to the BARE-METAL FOIL CO. web site. They have the price per pack. But I can not find the number of sheets per pack. Do you remember how many you got per pack?
??? H^^

I saw the jet Waco perform at the Sussex airport in NJ some years ago.
Saw this airplane perform also.
-
John, there are two (2) sheets per pack.

Retired Braniff Captain Jack Winthrop had a couple of Wacos and this is one. He would fly this one
to our reunions. Jack has flown West, but his daughter still flies this beautiful airplane. Allen, you've
got that color perfect!

Dale,
I am sorry to hear that Jack has flown west. I enjoyed talking to him. He will be missed. I always looked forward to seeing his Waco at the Hartlee Field reunions. That is my favorite antique bipe.
He was based at a Private airport near where I live. It is nice to be able to taxi right to your house.
