Fun Scale Mustang
« on: April 20, 2019, 08:41:06 PM »
This is my Mustang modified from a semi-scale Brodak kit for Fun Scale/Profile Scale. It flies with an OS LA 40 and an RC throttle with a trigger control held in my left hand (allows me to use a regular 2 line flying handle but with full throttle control).  It is based on a Blue Nose Bosney model, Snoot's Sniper.

Holding the RC car transmitter in the left hand is commonly done, There are two people doing that the Nats this year. When you fly in Fun scale events make the take off and landing look the full size (watch some videos on youtube)

This is what I do

1) Start the engine (glow powered) at 1/2 power
2) When I get to the handle reduce the power to an idle and signal to release the model, it should not move. Your assistant should not try to push the model
3) Throttle up slowly to full power, let it roll on all three wheels. When it gets going fast enough the tail will come up
4) Climb out smooothly to the cruise flying height (there is no need to fly a 5.5 sec lap during the 10 levels)
5) When you land throttle back slowly and work the throttle during the landing, you don't land with the elevator but by working the throttle.
6) When the model is on the ground rolling, throttle back all the way an then hold full up elevator and taxi up to a stop. you should be able to come to a stop with the engine at idle.
7) Shut down from the handle to get max points for the throttle control option...

Throttle control is one of your options for the flight points, because of this don't go to full power and have someone hold the model for a stunt type takeoff, your realism score and takeoff score will suffer. Make th takeoff look like the full size aircraft. Taxi is another option you can youse along with touch and go which counts for two options.
