F4U Corsair's at the 2023 Nats
« on: December 22, 2022, 06:50:02 AM »
three pilots are getting an F4U Corsair model ready for the 2023 Nats.  The largest was built from the Royal kit and has an OS .90 four stroke.

Does anyone else have a F4U Corsair they want to bring to the Nats? If it was built by someone else or an ARF you can fly in Fun Scale. There is also Team and sport scale.

Last year we had three Bell P-39's

I will be bringing my Corsair that I competed with in the 1993 Nats, and will enter it in Fun Scale. (One of the 3 Fred's talking about)
It will be the 30 year anniversary since Fred, Grant, and myself were at the Nats together for the first time.
I'll bring my P47 to enter in Sport Scale. It's going to be fun!
I would post pictures but all my pictures are 3 to 5mb.  :-\

I almost have my Corsair fixed up so it can fly again. I had to repair some damage to the model after a hard landing.

Jeff Jensen also a Corsair that he will be bringing.

The fun part is that all three models have the same squadron markings (with the Arrow on the fin and wing).

The Corsair that I fly is the Great Planes Combat ARF, I use it as a practice plane and for general flying. I don't plan on entering my Corsair in the Nats but it will be there for a group picture.

this is the Royal SR F4U that Lynn Boss is bringing to the Nats. OS-90 four stroke for power. Lynn entered this model in the 1993 Nats.

I will post a picture of my F4U soon as I get the cowl clear coated. Mine is smaller and is not nearly as nice as Lynn's

The ground shot that I posted a few minutes ago was from the 1990's and was taken at Whittier Narrows in the LA area. This picture was taken this year, so you can see the model has not changed after all of these years

After some major repairs, new cowl my old F4U that was assembled from the Great Planes ARF Combat series is now ready for a test flight. Originally designed for a .15 sized motor I decided to install a OS-35FP just to make sure it had enough power. Also added bomb drop to the model on the centerline of the wing below the fuselage more on that later.

I use this model as my practice model when I just want to go out and fly, it was never intended to enter competition with the model. I have another fun scale model that will be entered in the Nats this year.

So if you have a F4U Corsair bring it out to the Nats, you don't have to enter but if you want you can fly it in fun scale if you want. The plan is to get a group picture of the Corsairs on Friday when we do static judging.
