C /L scale wanted
« on: March 15, 2022, 07:40:55 AM »
Hi Allen,

Working further on the scale exhibit research and I was wondering, with your contacts, if you had heard of anyone having this CL biplane?

It won the first CL Scale event at the 1948 Nats. JC Yates won Open Class with kind of a team entry. He designed the model, a PT-17 Stearman, Bob Palmer built the model, and Yates flew it in the competition. The airplane had 38” wingspan, was powered with a Orwick 64, and was finished in the paint scheme of airshow pilot Sammy Mason.

A construction article was in April 1950, Air Trails Pictorial. And for a while someone was selling full-size plans  from that article on Ebay  and in their description and photographs of what he is selling, mentioned that two of the pictures “are of his original model.”

I tried to contact but never heard back so figure the airplane is still around somewhere, hopefully…

Didn’t know if you could ask around in your scale circles?

Thanks,

Michael
