Title: Ascender
Post by: Airacobra on January 27, 2014, 06:31:32 PM
This is my 1/2a Scale attempt. Never ventured into C/L scale but after reading the rules I thought I might be able to handle this event. I spoke to a good friend last week and he shared about his 1/2a scale projects and thought why not?? Started hacking some wood and this is where I am now. Sorry about the quality of the photo, phone does a crappy job in this area.

You're building a Curtis Ass-ender* for your first scale model?  Brave man!

* Not my name for it.  It was so dubbed by its test pilots, for its behavior in stall.

Keith, great subject. I see there is greater diversity in 1/2A scale than the other classes. Keep the pictures coming.

Blessings

Thanks for the encouragement guys. This project is one I wanted to build for alot of years but really had no reason to. The 1/2 A scale event is fun in that just about everybody has an engine laying around and the investment is so low that it just increases the fun. I am not sure what to expect from the Ascender, but it is one cool looking plane. I hope I can keep it together long enough to fly it in a contest, maybe the Nats or FCM. I miss doing the contest thing and miss the guys involved.

They are an old set of Model Airplane News plans. I have the magazine around here with the article, I just need to find it again.
