Ironic ??
« on: November 23, 2012, 11:58:15 AM »
They just passed a rule to allow 2.4 radios, which will make gizmo options child's play.

Now we see proposals for a 2-line scale event with NO options - not even throttles.

Strange. Veryvery strange.

Hi Paul,

I would dearly love to see the "2 line, no options" event run at a meet I could get to.  I would definitely build a model and enter.

The 2.4 issue has simply pushed scale a bit further down on my bucket list............

n~  Just because it's there does not mean you have to use it. Three line has work for years and will continue to be a competitive set up for years to come.
A B-17, or B-36 looks impressive but it dose not mean it is better than a SE-5A or a P-51 Mustang.
I,m going to keep going on till you guys run out of reasons why you can't fly with us.   LL~

I like the flying end of scale and would hate to see it eliminated. It seems to me that the whole purpose is to build a plane that is a miniature of the real thing and fly it realistically.

But then I also like 2.4Ghz and electric motors

Brother Allen,

I have no basis with any kinda of "control" other than up and down.  3 line or 2.4 means nothing to me in the grand scheme of things! LOL!!  But adding stuff of any kind is a whole new can of worms for me.  I have no doubt that I could build an appropriate model but, adding working anything will be new, so to speak.  Plus all the documentation, etc., will be Greek to me.  I can hardly get through the "rules" and understand what you can or cannot do.

We will see...........

Bill; Try this, get a profile anything 15,35, what ever put a JR three line bellcrank in it and a RC engine and play with it. It is fun just to taxi and do touch-and-go'es. Then take the next step..................The documentation for scale is not that bad once you do it for the first time. We all would help anyone on that part.

Not really.

I think it is really cool that there's people out there who build 4-engined scale models that have working flaps, retracts with a couple of dozen wheels, paratroops jumping out, and a couple of on-board cameras.

Do I want to build and operate something like that? No, I don't think so :)
I built a Blue Pants as a kid. Wish I still had it. Might even learn to fly it.

Hi Brother Allen,

I have exactly what you are talking about.  I have a Dumas Crusader which is getting repaired and has a Roberts 3 line system.  There is no covering on the wing, but that will be fixed.  I also have the Roberts handle and a set of matched 3 lines.  I will be making my first flights while I come back using this model.  I can chop the throttle and come down if things go bad with me.

I have a simple Sterling Great Lakes Trainer that is well under construction.  I will not be painting it until I have the pictures to back it up.

Next step??

Here's my take on building a 3-line model - scale, carrier, or sport.

Job One is getting the throttle aligned with the throttle output from the bellcrank so it works perfectly all the time.
Job Two is setting up the updown pushrod so it doesn't interfere with Job One.
Job Three is adding the leadouts to the bellcrank so they don't bugger up Jobs One & Two.

Build everything else around the above.

Bill,

Bob's Aircraft Documentation has more than a dozen photo packages (many different prints in each package), different paint schemes of the Great Lakes Trainer.  These are all color.  Taken for use by modelers for color documentation.  Not cheap, but still a good value. Worth looking at.  Bob Banka will be glad to talk to you and help you with what you are looking for.

His catalog is at

Bill, you don't have to send a lot of money for your pictures. Google your aircraft and you will find lots of picture. Or do like I did with my Brewster Buffalo, I bought a plastic "Tamiya" model and used that for my documentation. You can do that too. Good luck as you progress with your aircraft. We all will help you if you have more question.

Blessings
Allen
