At the 1968 Cal Western contest at Sepulveda Basin this Dyna Jet powered F-84 was a beauty but I don't know who built it and never saw it fly.
Rick Loomis finished this Fokker Dr-1 at the 1968 Olathe Nats and test flew it on a calm evening illuminated by the hangar ramp lights and a huge harvest moon, in which he looped it around!
The Lancaster by Linton Keith was always a hit and a winner at the Nats in 1968, here under attack by Keith Trostle's Focke Wulf TA-152 1/2A Proto Speed model. He later published a Spitfire for the came event.

That Lancaster by Linton Keith won the Nats CL Scale event at least twice. It was a piece of art. Turrets turned with good detail, bomb bay doors opened, had good cockpit detail. I cannot remember if the LG retracted. Flew very well.

I remember the old days of scale in the early 1960's. The event was basically all static with a token takeoff and landing. The scale flights were typically the last flights of the day. The static points were announced in advance so only the top three bothered to fly, unless one of them failed.
The models LOOKED great, but didn't fly very well. The event died out because the same three guys always won.
Surprisingly, they're trying it again in Toronto, except with profile models. I actually built one. It's ready to go if the border ever opens.
