Great job Dick! I have looked at building a Ki-83. One of several very clean looking twins developed late in the war.
What did you use for documentation?

Dick,

That really looks good.

I think the Ki 83 is one of the three best looking twins of all time and you have certainly captured its looks with even a profile.  I am looking forward to seeing it in October.  (What are the other two? you ask.  My list includes this Ki 83, the deHavilland Hornet/Sea Hornet and the Grumman F7F Tigercat.  The Westland Whirlwind almost makes the list but is more "interesting" than it is a really attractive looking aircraft.)

What you have accomplished with this is one of the reasons that I think this multi-engine profile scale idea of Mike Keville will receive increased interest.

To go along with What Chuck Snyder asked above, I will also be interested in the documentation when you bring it to Tucson in October.  There are a few decent 3-views of this and there is a book on experimental Japanese fighters that has a surprising amount of detail in it. There is also a 1/72 plastic kit that builds into a decent looking model.

Beautiful model!  It was on the top of my list of "must have" models.  What is the span?  Look forward to seeing it fly.

Keith,
I was luck enough to purchase all the KoKu fan 3 views of twin aircraft that were available in the 70's I have many different ones. The 3 views enlarged to a full size plan at Kinko's. I have copies. The KoKu fan Japanese experimental fighter book has some good photos but I was able to get a web sight that has all the available photos poster on it. I did a google search and it took a lot of time to find them. My plan is to fly it at the Nats in profile scale in August. The test flights will happen soon. I just finished making up the lines this morning. Everything works fine.

Wing span is 30" 27 oz total weight. 2 AP Wasp .061. Need extra head gaskets to throttle well.

How did you come up with a 3/61 scale?  Is that what it took to match available wheels/props?  I was playing with numbers for some other choices (since you already picked my favorite) and started to compare them to your Ki-83.  Years ago, Roland Baltes and Marv Martinez built their planes to the same scale which made direct comparison of prototypes interesting.  Didn't run the numbers for Keith's Bear yet. Whatever, the search continues for something to build.

The reason for the size is spinners. I could only get 1" from Jim Lee. They are the best spinner available and I needed 4mm threads on the joining nut. You can't find any anywhere. I was able to make my own union nut from stainless steel.
The other reason it is the exact size that looks cool, plus the fact that it is the largest print Kinkos could make on their copier.
This is a cool look. I am so glad I found the KoKU Fan 3 views.
