Holeshot and RD-1
« on: January 12, 2014, 05:39:30 PM »
Bob
Does the RD-1 and the Holeshot take the same ribs in a built up wing? Do you sell laser cut rib sets for these planes?  I've heard it takes the same rib set as the Twister.  Is that true?
Thanks
Duke

Hi Duke:

Nope; the RD-1 airfoils is very similar to the Sig Twister. Twister ribs would suffice there, but the Hole Shot has a totally different airfoil profile. It was developed from Dick Mathis's Mongoose.

I'm thinking of building the RD-1 instead of the Holeshot. I thought it might take me further. Would I build it per the drawings if I went electric?

Yup, except that you will need to modify the nose to accept and electric front mount. I might also suggest lengthening the tail moment by 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Other than that, have at it!

I can produce either a foam core, a sheeted foam wing, or a Lost-Foam wing building fixture for the RD-1 in case you are interested.

What's the cost for a set of RD-1 plans and the lost foam jig?  I've never built using the lost foam and I'm not sure how to do it, but I read it's a great way to go.
