Title: Perky bell crank location ?

Hi ,

first off , mu apologies if this post is in the wrong forum ...

I want to build the BlackHawk Perky kit , this fall .

My first question is this ...

Can I wing mount the B/C (inside the wing)?

and my second question ...

What should the line spacing be , exiting the wing tip ?

Third and final ...

How much wing tip weight and should it be permanently mounted in the wing ?

I bolt the bellcrank to the bottom of the wing and run lines directly into it with no leadouts.  It's too much work to try & bury 9" of leadouts in the wing, especially with the elliptical shape.  If I cut enough clearance into the wing to bury the bellcrank, the two wing halves would be on the verge of falling off.

The leadout guide is just a plywood plate with a series of holes.  You can start out at the back and sneak forward as you go along.

It needs A LOT of tip weight, considering the 18" wingspan and vertical engine.  Maybe a full ounce?  When you pick it up by the spinner and tailskid, you want that outboard tip to stay down - or else eat the plane the first time you take off.

It's not really a pan rat.  It's just painted to look like one.

You can if you wish, but if you want to enter the Perky Postal check the rules. Internal leadouts may disqualify you.

As far as I can see, the only thing that DQ's you from Perky Postal is going too fast.    With the the very low cap speed and "average wins" rules, nothing else makes much difference.

I've seen several with indoor leadouts.  All it does is assure that the leadouts will be too far aft.

I looked through the pamphlet(s) in the kit and one mentions running the lead out cables through the wing (if desired), I must have an older kit , as the one I have contains no decals , so maybe the newer kits have different literature ?

I suppose the simplest thing for making a strong thin wing with internal leadouts would be to go for a solid carved balsa wing, or maybe 2 or 3 layers of balsa, like Team Racers when the winning designs were still wooden.

With the lines entering at wingtips (lower than designed), would there be need to change wing location or add dihedral?
