Attached is my version of Bill Bischoff's Boo-Ray SGY. This is the one that can be made using the Broday Flite-Streak trainer as the basis of the wing. Finish is Sig Dope, power a Magnum 15, weight 21.8 ounces. LG, tank and plans all from Bill, CF veil on wing, 3/4' fiberglass on fuselage and tail surfaces. Test flights to follow. 8)

Thanks for the idea but I don't think it will be necessary. 8)

A very nice looking plane, like it.
-
The plane looks great. The gear should work okay with practice. Its a racing plane and not noted for taxing around the airport. In fact when I was setting up my planes it was so the pilot could land on the mains and roll it into the pit for me. I too at the time thought the plane would nose over but with speed and some down elevator once the wheels are on the ground it will roll right to the pit man. H^^

Thanks all.. As far as the gear goes, I'm not going to second guess the designer. At the, last contest I was at they all had similar gear and landed OK. The smoothest landing were wheel landings. As was stated above, it is a race plane and like race many planes ground handling is not their strong point but that's where practice comes in. 8)

What is the wingspan of the prototype airplane and of the model?
-
You will have to check with Bill B. regarding prototype or design details such as landing gear placement. This was built from his reduced plans blown up around 80%. The key length is the wing width which is 6 5/8". Using that as a constant the wingspan works out to about 22 3/4". Mine is closer to 23". I'm sure there have been others built as well. Details on the wing construction are posted elsewhere in this section. For building instructions I found the Model Aviation article on Bill's "Margaret June" racer very helpful. 8)

Prototype 15'6" span, model 22.75" span. Within the 1/8 scale minus 5% rules. Scheduled to be a Brodak kit.

Nice airplane Pete. Well done.

Thanks Wayne, and thanks Bill for clarifying the dimensions of the BooRay. Glad I got it right. Building these racers is a nice break from building Stunters (and the occasional Carrier plane). Have started a new SSR and next SGY will be a "Margaret June". 8)
