Title: new model "Miss Min"
Post by: bill bischoff on April 14, 2022, 04:34:27 PM
This is a Sportsman Goodyear model of "Miss Min", a highly modified Cassutt. Over 25 years and many modifications ago, the real airplane was raced by CL speed flier Bill Nusz. The model weighs 22 oz, and flies well with the CG 1'' behind the root leading edge. The glide seems better than most. I can't say the the model's wing has the same "magic" as the full scale one does, but it doesn't seem to be giving anything away. The model should make its race debut at the Dallas contest at the end of this month.

How did you get the tether point right with that much sweep back?

I used a screwed on line guide. I didn't really know where the CG should be. Where it naturally ended up seemed like as good a place to start as any. Based on that CG, I used the NCLRA line rake calculator to locate the line guide. The line guide is 3 3/4" in from the tip, and about 5/8 behind the LE at that point. Test flying proved that it was all good.
