question on the upcoming SCAR races in whittier
« on: February 24, 2015, 07:40:34 PM »
I would like to try control line racing. If i built a SIG buster or shoe string with an os15la, is there any events i could participate in?

What you describe would qualify for Scar Goodyear at the Whittier contests.

The schedule I have says the next contest is April 11-12, with racing only on the 12th.

Thanks Les.
Looks like the engine of choice is the Asp/magnum s15a.
Guess I'll be buying an engine also.... Lol

Scar has different rules for Engine choice than other areas of the country. I've copied the engine rules from the SCAR website and posted them below.

SCAR Goodyear event is intended to support the use of both Diesel and Glow engines. Maximum permitted engine displacement is 0.153 cubic inches (2.50 cc).  Any engine may be used that has a listed retail price equal to or less than $150USD as of 31 January 2000.  A competitor desiring to use a specific engine must present price evidence.  That evidence may be either general availability (published advertisements, etc.) at or below the stated limit, or In the case of an older engine, a dated advertisement at or below the stated limit.

I've never seen the contest management ask for any of this info at any SCAR contest I've been to. Possibly because everyone abides by the rule...

At any rate, there is a large selection of engines available. Here is a list of some that I know are legal to use.

1. Moki 15 Sport
2. Super Tigre G20-15, G15FI or RI, X-15, FI, or RI.
3. Cox Conquest 15 Cox or K&B version
4. K&B 15 up to the last version, series '73 I think.
5. O.S. LA, FP, CV, CVA, or RX .15, or all the earlier cross flow designs.
6. Picco .15
7. Early rear exhaust Nelson 15 RV diesel (steel P/L only) and non push pull head.
8. Norvel AME. or Big Mig .15
9. ASP, or Magnum .15
10. Fox .15 up to and including the dbl ball bearing Schnuerle port engine.
11. MVVS D6, D7 and up to the current model.
12. Brodak .15

I'm sure there are many others, and if anyone wishes, feel free to add more legal choices to the list.

So far i have ordered the SIG shoestring and an asp S15A. This seems to be a popular combo and legal for the DMAA races also. Hopefully I'll be flying in Texas a couple times a year.
