looking for Brodak 25s
« on: January 09, 2013, 08:31:43 PM »
Super slow is growing in Dist. 8 and no engines are to be found. Anyone out there have new ones they might sell or slightly used? We have several new people that want to try Super Slow and the engine of choice is not to be found. We have started a hunt among a few racers to locate engines to bank for new comers. We have a lot on back order but have no confidence that we will ever see a new shipment anytime soon at Brodaks. Season is coming up so help is appreciated. Brodak 25 only please, we can find the others but it is hard to convince a new guy to use something other than the engine that is doing all of the winning.  I have 4 new people I am trying to get started but we need a little help in the search.
Thanks,
RO

No help on the Brodak 25.
I bought one use in lieu of the OS LA25 but after some testing decided to stay with the OS.  I Ebay'd the Brodak and lived happily ever after with my several OS's.  Far as I know you can have an OS in hand within four days via regular channels.

Paul, I am pretty sure Richard knows that. But I am also certain he knows that the OS will get beat by the Brodak 9 out if 10 times.

Aw Bill, you didn't tell him the secret as to why his B25 was slow, stock venturi dia!  B40 venturi drops right in, and can be bored out bigger!

We have stock engine rules around here and we abide by them.  Even without the rules, you can't win with an engine you can't get.

Money is no object if you want to win bad enough.   I know of several indivduals that would buy engines by the dozen just to find a couple that were keepers.  Then sold the rest to us wanna bees.

LOL! Sorry didn't mean to lol, I was thinking 200. I guess these engines are not as sought after as I thought. Maybe Brodak will get another batch made up some day.

MM

When Brodak has them, the list price NIB is on the order of $100+/-. I think that's why Richard suggested $75 for a used one.

Richard;
         Wayne Buran has one for sale in the classifieds here. I tried to e-mail you but it didn't go through.

Just some thoughts: I bought mine bench run only for $65.00 but that was a "Good Buddy" price. $75 is a reasonable offer. With 4 newbies, why not get them to build a plane and start racing among themselves with an FP or LA? Still pretty fast and they would get some good practice flying and pitting without endangering the really fast guys through their inexperience and unpredictability, if you all know what I mean. The Brodak 25 is a drop in for LA or FP 25s so the switch could be made when the B-25s are available again. Oh, and since this post was started by Richard Oliver, I love my Ro-Jett 61 BSE. Running on a short header muffler, it is awesome!  8)

I think that we are somewhere around a year waiting for a shipment of Brodak 25s. I would imagine that the preordered ones will dissapate the supply rapidly and what is left will go really fast. So in other words if you hesitate you could be waiting for another extended period for more or perhaps that might be wishful thinking and another engine goes into the archives.

The B25 does have a 3 bolt backplate that can interfere with "dropping it right in".  Depends on the nose config.

You are right, I forgot about that. I should have said that an airplane built around a 25 LA or FP can easily be modified to accept a Brodak 25. 8)
