Title: LA 25 and Clown Racing at the Michigan State Meet - Rouge - Sept 6.
Post by: Paul Smith on September 06, 2008, 08:02:14 PM
The LA 25 Sport Race (not Foxberg) went off smoothly, with all three teams going direct to the finale on a unanimous voice vote.

It was a photo finish with the first two places less than two laps apart.  The third place team was also in the hunt until a pit fire damaged his battery clip.

First Place - Paul Smith, flown by Steve Kott, 9:57
Second Place - Jon Brzys, pitted by Ed Brzys, 10:01
Third Place - Brad LaPointe, flown by Wayne McDaniel, 11:43

The course is 10 miles (140 laps) with 3 mandatory pit stops.

Thanks to our jury of Ed King, Mark Warwashana, and Ron Colombo.

We were determined to have a Clown Race this time.  To that end, I brought out three planes in case I needed to sponser another team.

But Jon Brzys saved me with his Black Hawk Custom Special.  See the Speed scores posted under "Speed".  While not exactly a Clown, it's pretty close. As indicated by the proto speed runs, Ed's plane went 70.8 MPH and my Circus Prince #3  went 70.9.  Close enough!

Clown Race - 7-and-a-half minutes, one ounce tank, pit stops as required.

Paul Smith, flown by Brad LaPointe, 120 laps.
Jon Brzys, pitted by Ed Brzys, 118 laps.

A finish within two laps again!  And both scores were good enough to make the final at the 2008 Brodak.  A good Clown debut for the Brzys Brothers.
