I could have won if...
« on: October 26, 2017, 04:24:54 PM »
Every racer has an excuse, so let's hear yours. Simply complete the sentence " I could have won if...".

Here's a few examples to get you started. "If my pilot hadn't broken all my good props."   "If the power hadn't gone off at home so I couldn't charge my GloBee." "If it wasn't so hot/cold/windy/rainy/sunny outside." "If my pilot hadn't run out of the circle before the other team was finished."

Be creative. Be snide. Be FUNNY! Every other month, I will pick some of the best excuses and print them in the NCLRA's newsletter, Torque Roll. If your excuse is chosen, you will get a free year's membership in NCLRA. I will contact the winners by PM.

(In the interest of full disclosure, I stole this concept from Charlie Johnson.)

Racing can be arduous at times. Jeff and I were working with a Nelson Diesel in clown race and would ask Buzz wILSON to argue on our behalf should there be an issue. We missed the finals by .2 seconds .....Buzz argued brilliantly that the 9 in our heat time really was a 7. This brought the contest to a halt as personalities soon became involved. Jeff and I shrunk into the background and let Buzzman do his thing. "How bad could it get?"  said.......when the CD finally bounced Buzz, Jeff and I out of the event, Buzz waited just the right amount of time and hollered loudly. "YOU DIDN'T MISS THE FINALS BY .2 SECONDS.....YOU MISSED IT BECAUSE OF BAD PENMANSHIP!"

 LL~ IT WAS GREAT.

This actually happened many years ago, but I didn't argue the point as the person that won had flown my plane into the finals 140 lap rat race.   He was home on leave from the Navy.  I manage to get a pilot from St Louis to fly my entry after the event director allowed a couple of tanks for test flights.  No shut offs back then.  Seem our timers heard we were both on the same laps after last pit stop.  I mean that ole Tigre was starting first flip each pit and they were right with us.  Both same air speed.   Any way our timer walked around the circle to where his timer was.  They both stop watches at same time.   So how much time is taken for my plane to get to his pit station?   Just wish I could have him get back to racing when his tour was up.   But he had gotten married and was starting a family.   So my excuse,  " The timers moved on me".

I also wish I could remember the gentlemans name that flew the old Skat Rat for me as I naever seen him again.  By the way this was at the Swope Park circles in KCMo.

No, Bob, that's exactly the point. I could win if everyone else is at the World Champs (or if Fast Freddy is your pilot) VD~
