I have heard of the nickle plating coming off some O.S. P/L's, usually it just wears through over time. The main reason I gave up on the LA/FP is that when you get them really running hard, they lose what little pinch the P/L had to start with. That's why I like the Brodak .25 as a sport racing engine, it has a real hard chromed Liner and is fit much better for racing.

We've been running LA25 Sport Race with stock engines and house fuel.  We never had any such problem, even after six years of 100 mile racing.  I am made to believe that the extra punch you achieved came at a price.  It's a cheap sport engine.

Yes that extra pinch did come at a price, an extra 30 bucks over the cost of an LA 25 to be exact. Your rules require the use of the LA 25, the SSR rules I fly by don't. For my event the extra 30 bucks was worth it, at least to me.

Hi MM

Yes, we are allowed to open up the venturi's for the SSR event. All other aspects of the engine have to remain stock.
As they come from the factory, the LA does have an advantage over the Brodak in power, however, when you start opening up the venturi's, that Brodak has a decided advantage over the LA and about equal to a really good FP. However, the Brodak hot restarts much easier than my FP ever did.

The biggest complaint I've heard about the Brodak, has been the lack of availability. Apparently they are manufactured in small runs, with much time in between the runs!

I use an 8x5 APC sport prop on mine, and my flying partner uses a 7x6 Taipan on his to very good effect.

I have a spare LA P/L in my stuff somewhere. It is used, but in great shape. I have no need for it, so if you can use it let me know and I'll send it to you no charge.

No troubles, offers still open if you need it in the future.
