When my son and I first started flying the Shoestring races, the forerunner of Goldberg Racing the Ringmaster was allowed until you got a Shoestring built.   All with Fox .35 stunt engines.  They also required the entrant to fly his own entry.  We also flew 3 up.   Then they had varying requirements to make it more interesting like you had to change pit stop spots each pit stop.  Another was you had to change pit men each stop.  They had as many as 12 local people entering.   The fuel had to be 10% fuel and one ounce fuel capacity for the fuel system.  Manu a one ounce tanks had dents in them.  They checked the planes after the flying before awarding certificates/awards.  We had a lot of fun.  Later fuel was contest management supplied as some were adding stuff to their fuel. I'm not management, just a regular customer since flying for Marvin Denny in 2005.
The engines are the Fox 35 Stunt, Brodak 25 and OS LA 25.
Airplanes are the Shoestring, Buster, Cosmic Wind, Flite Streak, and Lightning Streak.
The fuel tank is a 2-ounce plastic tank filled with house 10% fuel. No shutoffs.
Laps have changed from time to time, 70 & 140 and sometimes 100 & 200.  Either length works OK with 2 ounces (for me anyway).

Personally, I favor the Brodak Lightning Streak because you can build it with common off-the-shelf wood, no special LE & TE shapes.  I was building a Cosmic Wind in April of 2006 when the rules change allowing Streaks was announced.  I instantly abandoned the Wind and built two Streaks which I still have today.

My Streaks were originally done in plain clear dope.  Then I bought an air brush and used them as my first two practice painting subjects.  Not masterpieces but apprentice work.

Another place where they missed the bus. Super Slow Rat should have been Goldberg/flight streak/ringmaster planes so we could unify all the Foxberg/slow rat events and get some nation wide participation instead of segmenting everything into little cliques with everyone wondering what the rules are.

I believe SSR allows all those plane designs and all the above listed engines.  It's meant to be very inclusive.

That's why there are different events. If you're not happy with a national event like SSR, then you or your club can change or create events to suit local wants and needs. If we unify all the events, are you willing to give up your event for the greater good? But we digress...
