New Margaret June
« on: October 01, 2024, 07:36:59 AM »
Being a part of the DMAA and all of the general CL activities
in the Dallas/Ft Worth area I have long been exposed to Stunt,
Carrier and Racing. I’ve always admired the 15 size Sport Goodyear
Racers. While admiring Bill Bischoff’s plane at the Nats a couple of
years ago he told me that plans were available from the AMA. My
Son and I promptly headed to the museum and bought a couple
of copies of the Margaret June plans.

I had just started building a new ‘03 Gieseke Bear, so it would be
awhile before I could get to the Margaret June. I don’t plan on competing
with it, I just want to enjoy the fun of building and flying it. And, I
really have enjoyed building it. Power will come from an SH 15 that
I got from Bill. The plane is in primer and ready for color.

Later, Steve

Nice job, we need more 15 Goodyears flying around. You should consider racing, it's very exciting and rewarding. With the spec rules everyone has a fair shot.

Steve is a NATS level competitor and former NATS stunt judge. I dare say he's already pretty heavily invested in CL. However, building and flying a new racer is the first step, and there's years of experience at his disposal in Dallas, so...Just sayin'  ;)

More progress on the Margaret June in the last two days.
Color and graphics are on, just the clear coat to go.

Those colors are taking me back. When I was a kid I built a 1/2a profile proto that was orange with blue bumble bee stirpes. Dad didn't like it but now I feel totally justified. Orange and blue rocks!

She’s finished and ready to fly!
Final weight: 22 oz.

Thanks, Steve

Nice job, looking forward to the flight report.

Just a word from experience, Before starting the engine, Don't ever open your shut off by reaching under the nose. You don't want that movement in your subconscious muscle memory. I have seen too many guys reach under the nose with the engine running to grab the shut off. Get in the habit of pulling the down line for shut off.
