The rules are posted on the Brodak web site under the Annual Fly-In tab. Allowable engines are stock Fox 35 Stunt, Brodak 25, and the OS 25LA.

Our club has flown Foxberg for years. A couple times we let LA25 compete and it was a blow out. They are so much faster than a Fox 35.

If other engines are allowed,  how can you call it Foxberg racing?

If you own the field you can call it anything you want.  Brodak Foxberg includes LA25's Brodak 25's, FLite Streaks and Lightning Streaks.  If they'd stayed with Fox 35 Stunts the event would have died long ago.

They still say "dial" the phone even though over half the world has never seen a dial.
There still waste eight letters saying "unleaded" gas ever though it's all been unleaded since circa 1975.

Have you seen this part of the Brodak rules? I don't know if it's true but, I heard stories of experienced racing people getting a hassle.

This event shall be designated as a sportsman only event.
There may be a separate expert class in addition to the current sportsman class . It will be designated as follows : Anyone who has raced previously in this event or similar events and who has qualified with a time below 7:00 minutes for 100 laps is considered an expert and therefore cannot compete in the sportsman class.
Once designated as an Expert ,neither the owner of the model or the model itself will be allowed in the sportsman class.
As per the new class designation “ expert ” there will be one 200 lap feature race for the expert pilots only with no less than 2 planes up and no more than 3 planes up at a time.
There will be only one trophy for the winner of the expert class at this time.
Any entrant whose deportment is considered abhorrent or unacceptable or in violation of the AMA rule regarding unsportsmanlike conduct shall be immediately disqualified.

I like that last part, do racing people have a reputation as being mean spirited?

Foxberg racing at Brodak's is a one off affair .The rules here are unlike any others .

Fox's ,LA's and Brodak .25's are very close in performance in STOCK trim .Open up the intake on a Brodak and all bets are off . We have a B .25 and if the needle is spot on we  maybe make up a lap in 10 or 20 .

This year we had one bad pit where the model landed 180 deg from our pit .I run like an old fart these days . Without shutoffs this happens . We finished  the race down by 10 seconds , racing is like that .

Some times you get the breaks and unlike last year we didn't burn the out board wing off ! We always have fun here ,win or lose . Thanks' to John Saunders for running the event .

How big is a stock LA25 venturi, how big is the B25 venturi? Was there any tech inspection at Brodaks?

Mine is the one that came with it (25 size) . For 80 MPH combat I use the 40 size . Since I have never needed anything else I've never measured them . Just looking at them the difference is apparent .

I believe the Stock LA 25 venturi size is .263". Al least that's what I remember them measuring to. Don't know about the Brodak, but think it is similar in size.

There's just an external look-over - sometimes.  They have never looked inside an engine.  Knock yourself out!

With the outboard tank and suction I don't think enlarging the venturi is an option.  Mine is stock and it still sags off a bit during acceleration.

The 2 ounce plastic tank is no real problem.  Nothing that can't be handled with 90 degree elbows and silicone bathtube sealer in half a shift.  I did mine in 2007, used 'em every year and had zero trouble.

They should have a separate class for the Fox 35 on a Goldberg plane.

They almost didn't have enough for a foxberg race much less a second class

Maybe the guys that had Foxberg racers didn't want to go up against faster engines. Doesn't matter really I heard next year is the end of Brodaks.

When it was Fox-only, everybody except Marvin Denny quit.  Marvin didn't cheat.  He just picked the beast Fox out of 38 he owns.  You can but ONE LA25 from Tower Hobby and equal his performance.  No OS no Foxberg.

Well at the time there were no good .25's available for Shoestring racing as it was called back then.  Remember a person could use a Ringmaster with Fox .35 for one contest.   I also remember Mike Talman saying that they would change pitmen during 3 and 4 up racing.   We at a get together one time had six up at one time.   Change pilots and pit men every so often.    Some of us have dropped the Shoestring racing because of physical problems.  Myself it started out with a bad hip and then the problems moved to the knees.    I think I can do it now if the speeds are like what I remember.   I do better at pitting than I do flying, just don't ask Melvin about it.
